Anthromancer, an ambitious tabletop gaming experience and the self-published debut of St. Louis-based indie designer Daniel James Drake (via Tetra Entertainment LLC), is on its way to the United States. After a successful kickstarter in 2020 and a 7 year development cycle, this product promises to dig deeper than the average board game, and will be available for purchase from the Anthromancer website in the early summer of 2022.
From the box description:
Anthromancer is an entertainment system that integrates a suite of neoclassical board and card games, a unique divination oracle, a full-length concept album, and an illustrated mythology. Each of these elements was designed in tandem so that one experience informs the rest. Their synergy depends upon 15 Hymns, which are represented as the major arcana of a deck of cards, as well as an album of songs.
The Mercenarium Arcade – In the board game suite, each hymn card allows a player to access powerful abilities that alter the tide of battle.
Dragonfruit Alchemy – In the divination oracle each hymn card carries a potent archetype of meaning and a classical element, which modulates the meanings of all other cards and symbols.
The Hymnal – Each hymn accompanies a musical composition on a concept album whose lyrics and moods add depth to a user’s understanding of the system.
The Fool and The Fox – Lastly, each hymn corresponds to a chapter of the lore which explores Anthromancer’s depth and grounds it in a fantastic origin story.
By engaging in any of these, your perspective of the whole will broaden, and your experience becomes that much richer.
This product was designed to evoke timeless human ritual; an extension of millennia of classical game design and the iconic aesthetics of sacred geometry. Care has been poured into each part, exemplified by the breathtaking minimalism of Calen Blake’s beautiful illustrations.
In a world of superficial values and plastic parts, we sought something deeper.
This is Anthromancer.
